MISSION STATEMENT

“To teach youth in Pakistan about Human Rights, thus helping them to become valuable advocates for the promotion of tolerance and peace.”

WHAT ARE HUMAN RIGHTS ?

Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. Universal human rights are often expressed and guaranteed by law, in the forms of treaties, customary international law general principles and other sources of international law. International human rights law lays down obligations of Governments to act in certain ways or to refrain from certain acts, in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups.

THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

In September 2015, all 193 Member States of the United Nations adopted a plan for achieving a better future for all–laying out a path over the next 15 years to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet. At the heart of “Agenda 2030” are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which clearly define the world we want applying to all nations and leaving no one behind. The new global goals result from a process that has been more inclusive ever with Governments involving business, civil society and citizens from the outset. We are all in agreement on where the world needs to go. Successful implementation will require all players to champion this agenda.

WHY HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION

Through human rights education you can empower yourself and others to develop the skills and attitudes that promote equality, dignity and respect in your community, society and worldwide

Purpose of (YAHR)

Pakistan Youth Assembly for Human Rights (YAHR) is a youth organization with the purpose to educate youth in human rights so they become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace. It was formed because it was realized that very little is being done to teach human rights to young people in Pakistan. In support of the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education, this youth organization is working on a human rights campaign to bring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to youth through essay and art contests and by providing materials for students and teaching guides for schools.
